Hemovent GMBH
Hemovent GMBH has developed a miniaturized extracorporeal membrane oxygenation system for bedside use in intensive care. The start-up says the footprint of its ECMO is just 10% the size of the smallest commercially available heart-lung machine, and the cost of the unit is 95% less than a standard ECMO device.
MediBeacon Inc.
The Optical Renal Function Monitor from MediBeacon Inc. could overcome the shortcomings of blood tests to measure renal function by using an external light sensor placed on the skin, and then administering a proprietary biocompatible tracer. The technology can measure kidney function in real time at the point of care.
Entac Medical Inc.
To accurately predict which patients will develop ileus following colorectal surgery, Entac Medical Inc. has created a self-contained, non-invasive disposable device that attaches to the abdomen. The device features a sensor to record bowel sounds and a microchip with an algorithm designed to detect a specific audio signature that is highly correlated to the development of postop ileus.
